The Coach House

Remember the movie Road House? It could have been filmed in this place if they added a fence in front of the stage. It's not really all that bad though. Run by the same folks as the Galaxy, it's a lot different. Like the Galaxy, if you want to get a halfway decent seat, get a dinner reservation. There is no pit or standing area here whatsoever, so you might as well get a good one. Prices, drinks, etc., are the same as the Galaxy, two drink minimum, $10 minimum for dinner. So much for what the two places have in common. The lineups here aren't as good, but that's my opinion. I have to say I've seen more bad shows here than anywhere else. They almost always book way too many bands and let the opening acts play too long, leaving for shorter sets for the headliners. The service you get here is also a crapshoot, ranging from really good to downright pitiful. It seems to depend on who you're blessed/stuck with that night. The place does host some pretty big names from time to time, and when they do it is a real treat to see them in a venue this small. Other than that, I'd say pick your shows carefully. This is probably the only place I won't venture to alone, unless some act comes up in the future that I absolutely have to see. The distance from home honestly does play a factor in that decision, but then again I do travel to Canes on occasion. Also, I've never done it, but I've noticed that you can pay the guy who seats you some extra change and your seat will sometimes magically transform itself into something better. I have no independent verification of this, but I've heard it works. Finally, they are doing some improvements to the place at long last. The god-awful bathrooms have now been replaced and they've added more seating area. What else they are going to do remains to be seen, but at least they're doing something!

As an aside, the upstairs rooms aren't all they're cracked up to be. It's nice and comfortable I'll admit, but you're too far away from the excitement I believe. The rooms are fairly inexpensive, way more comfortable than the hard-ass chairs downstairs, but the sound isn't as good and you don't really get into the show the same. Take that for what it's worth.
