It's a long drive down to San Diego, not to mention Mission Bay, so the show better be worth the drive. Canes is confused, or so it seems to me. Multiple entrances, lots of places inside without access to the show. Kind of like a big bar / restaurant / nightclub with a stage placed inside as an afterthought. There isn't any drink service that I could find short of getting your own, and there weren't any open bars in the concert area. The place is still a good place to see a show though. I imagine it's probably an even better nightclub or restaurant. For the shows, they have railings around the pit if you're concerned about getting hurt. I haven't seen any other place get as wild as Canes. No real security to speak of, lots of crowd diving, surfing and moshing. A few body parts were injured and some blood flowed on almost every night I've been there, which to be honest isn't that many, since most of the shows there also play up here. The concert room also has some stairs leading to an interesting upper area, which I haven't watched a concert from. There's been a lot of kids there and they get into the shows a lot more than us older folks, so if you're hanging with the younger set be prepared to mosh or stay out of the pit. They do have some seats and tables way in the back, but I found the railing to be a nice comfortable place. be forewarned, Canes is dark, dirty and hotter than hell when the action starts. Of course, if you're going to see any of the bands that I've seen play there, you're looking for that kind of action anyway, aren't you? Those over 21 with tickets in hand seem to be let in earlier at the entrance on the boardwalk. By the way, I haven't found the grill part of this place, although I suppose it's really there.
