saturday evening

well happy new year. good lord it was a long year. this last new year's was probably the crummiest one since my divorce sadly. had a plan or two to go see the supersuckers at the key club or drink a little wine with a good movie, but both plans got squashed by an ill-timed cold.  so along with that and the news that my year-end bonus was not to be, i just ended up driving home and pretty much going straight to bed. 

how boring.

but that seems to be what my life's become these last few months. i can't remember the last time i saw some live music, my guitar stands in the corner accusing me nightly of neglect, and my gf is 1000 miles away.  i did at least get to take a little trip up to seattle last month, which was nice. that city grows on me every time i go there for one reason or another. sadly it seems less magical and full of trees and greenness everytime i go, but i guess that's familiarity coming on. in any event it's way prettier than anywhere in california save the high sierras and the virgin desert. at least now i've got a few buns in the oven in an attempt to experience that prettiness permanently.

i have noticed that i guess in lieu of drinking, carousing and partying multiple times a week, i now tend to do a lot more reading. not that i didn't read a lot to begin with, but i've never really been able until recently to camp out and just read read read. been reading some good stuff, mostly fiction now though since a lot of the n/f cosmology and physics book have been relagated to the finished pile. found a few good little gems these last few months, not the least of which was a rediscovery of steinbeck, and the discovery of neil gaiman. sadly, i'm currently out of books and am now crusing the web for something interesting. just like cable, there isn't that much out there. 

and now i'm done adding to that nothingness for tonight. the saturday night classic monster movie is coming up and i don't want to miss it.
