The Tossers

House of Blues, Anaheim

The Tossers were the opener in a two act set for Stiff Little Fingers at my first show in quite some time. I was a little disappointed that there were only going to be two acts, but fortunately The Tossers were allowed to play a good long set and, best of all, the didn't suck. I was also surprised somewhat that these guys are another Irish punk band. I had thought Flogging Molly and a couple of others had pretty much filled that void in the musical vacuum, but I guess not. Nevertheless they still played some good mix of the usual drinking songs, moshing songs and just plain old punk songs. So like Flogging Molly, this band has a lot of people on their payroll, including guys for banjo, mandolin, tin whistle, drums, guitar, bass and, what every Irish punk band needs, a girl playing the fiddle. They weren't a very lively lot on stage and for the most part just stood there and played. The floor on the other hand had a few good circles going which unfortunately forced me to the sidelines after losing two drinks and getting hit in the arm I'm not supposed to be injuring for the next six months. Oh well. In any event, I doubt I'd go see these guys alone mostly because their show isn't all that exciting and I'm not a huge, huge fan of Irish punk. As an opener I'd be happy seeing them again, their music still rocks after all.
