Sworn Enemy

The Whisky
House of Blues, Anaheim

Sworn Enemy opened for the Kittie show at the Whisky one Valentine's Day, although I didn't remember who the hell they were the next day. I knew some of their music and their name from a sampler CD I'd picked up at some show along the way, and thought they were pretty kewl for a metal band but never put two and two together. Anyway, so they opened up for the dismally short Soulfly show (one more jibe at those jerks) as the first act. The moment I saw the bass player I remembered them from the Kittie show. They're good. Really good. They've got a good stage presence and some good music behind them, and they were one of those rare acts to get the crowd started with the first act. They had more people moshing and carrying on in the pit than I've seen for some headliner acts. I don't know if that's just because of the crowd there that night or what, but they certainly had 'em going. They put on a good show with lots of action and movement .. no just standing around for these guys. The bass player's a trip ... bald and looking like he's ready to kill you with his bass (or at least kick you upside your head). The rest of the band is rounded out by a dedicated singer, two guitarists and a drummer. Loud, raucous and good, they're definitely worth the price of admission. As a kewl segment of their HOB show, they brought Janet the bass player from Kittie out to sing a song. If only it was Morgan, Mercedes or (ahem) TaLeNa, it would have been even better, hee hee. Anyway, if you like the music, they put on a good show ... catch 'em if you can. And BTW they blew away the guys who came on after them ... E Town Concrete.
