Supersuckers

House of Blues, Anaheim
Jazzbones, Tacoma
The Tractor, Seattle

A disclaimer: I fucking love the Supersuckers, so I'm not going to say anything bad about them. Ever. Unless they stop coming to the House of Blues. Then they'd be bastards and I'd hate them. As I write this I've seen them twice (thrice now). Twice as their own headlining act, and once opening up for Flogging Molly. Anyway, they play loud. They play fast. They play hard. It's just what rock should be. No real attitude so to speak of. Just good rock and roll that makes you want to jump. Not really moshing music, even though a bunch of morons always seem to want to do just that. My only bitch with these guys would be when they fuck around with the bass, letting other people play it, hitting it with drumsticks, blah blah, blah. The crowds have tended to be well behaved and the age range runs towards the older crowd, just because these guys have been around so long. There's plenty of youngsters there though, to keep it interesting. At the first show they didn't play much off their latest CD since it wasn't out yet, at the Flogging Molly show they started to play some of them. At the last show, they played a combination of stuff. In any event, as long as they play the Evil Powers of Rock 'N' Roll at least once every show, I'm satisfied. The Joe Walsh impersonation thing works pretty well too! Anyway, these four guys kick ass, and while they seem to be a little underrated, they're one of the great rock and roll bands touring. You won't be disappointed if you go, I guarantee it. Bring earplugs if you're faint of heart.

The Latest (Feb 04)
They still kick ass! Playing with Throw Rag, it turned into a night of loud music and mayhem in the pit that's going to take me a week to recover from. Totally one of the best shows I've seen like this in a long, long time.

Even Kewler
You can see me on their live DVD while I was attending the show that cost me bruised ribs and a month of recovery. Woo hoo! I've got a better appearance on the Throw Rag DVD though. Heh.

A Tad More Bittersweet in '06
So I drove my baby to Washington and got to see Eddie and the boys in their hometown of Seattle. What a kick in the pants. They played a little club in Tacoma and while the crowd wasn't at all what I was used to the boys still rocked. The drummer was new, something about Murderburger (I think that's what his name was) had to semi-retire or something. He played a lot harder than I remember from the other shows I've seen the boys play. Speaking of which, this was the first time I'd actually seen them sober the entire time and didn't miss out on the show by moshing in the pit. Primarily cuz it was me and my baby's Valentine's dinner (gotta love a chick who'll go for that), and because we had seats, and because it was in the balcony, and because I would have been the only one moshing. A little *gasp* dancing occurred up front, but thankfully for the management it didn't get out of hand, lol. Eddie still had the rest of the band play the bass (which is no more interesting sober than it is drunk) but the rest of the show kicked ass. Anyway, they play tomorrow night as well up in Santa Barbara and if my arm deflates I'm gonna go check 'em out. You should too .... they are truly the greatest rock and roll band in the world (and they'll be the first to tell you that as well).
