Sue Paine

The Coach House

Oh this one's gonna be hard to write. I was impressed at first, seeing the array of fine-ass Taylor acoustics up on stage and the totally overbearing drum kit, I figured maybe it's all going to be good. Wrong. Not that there's anything wrong with the music mind you ... it wasn't blues (they were opening for a blues act, so I was expecting something along those lines) and it wasn't rock ... mostly folk / pop songs. You probably know that's not my cup of tea, but to their credit Sue and the guys (bassist/keyboardist, drummer, and two additional guitars) played well, and sounded great. Sue does have an incredible voice, and while subdued for most of the night, it appeared the guitarists had the talent as well. So what was wrong you ask? Her attitude and their stage presence. There I said it. I wasn't the only one that night that commented she came off like a total bitch. Enough so that it pretty much ruined her performance for me. They also chew ENTIRELY TOO MUCH GUM. It was like a herd of cows up there at times, I swear to god. IF she came across a little friendlier without so much attitude, and forgot the way to the gum aisle at the market, she'd be 100 percent better. Final kicker? In checking out her website, she had the nerve to lead on that she was the headliner that night (which she wasn't) and listed Anthony Gomes as a special guest. Enough said. Listen to her CD if you like the music, and spare yourself the Paine (sorry, couldn't resist) of seeing them live.
