House of Blues, Anaheim More old punk rock at the HOB. The interesting thing about this show was the crowd SLF drew. A lot of the old skewl punk shows I see have a lot of kiddies and relatively few older folks like myself in attendance. For whatever reason, there were a lot of old folks at this show. Maybe because it was a Saturday night or maybe SLF was a hell of a lot more popular back in the day than I remember. The funny thing was how segregated the crowd was, with the kids downstairs mixing it up and having a good time, and the folks old enough to be their parents upstairs behaving. After losing two drinks in the pit and getting hit one too many times, I followed my doctors advice and got out of the pit. Just a few more months and I can fly and mosh again, hopefullly. I spent the rest of the evening at the side of the stage slowly going deaf as my poor little eardrums got blasted with the music. I have to say I've never been a huge fan of these guys and as a result I wasn't way too familiar with their history or music. But what the fuck they put on a damn good show anyway. Just good old punk rock with the four guys pictured above. Two guitars, one bass and a drummer. What else do you need? The music came fast and furious and there was a lot of energy both in the crowd and up on stage. They didn't really do a lot of antics and the show wasn't all that exciting visually, but I'll admit these old fucks did get the crowd going pretty good with plenty of moshing and surfing. They played a nice long set as they were only the second band of the night and closed out with a couple of encores. I didn't leave early and stuck with them through the encores, which usually piss me off. Why can't bands just finish the show and get out without this little ritual anyway? But all in all it was a good night. Having seen them now, I'd probably go see them again if the timing and circumstances were right. Not being one of their fans I don't think I'd be one of the many who seem to seek these guys out. But oh well, they rocked, and I wouldn't hesitate recommending one of their shows to anybody.
