Soulfly House of Blues, Anaheim Too bad for these guys is all I have to say. Musically and visually, they brought the house down. Damn good sound, great lighting, and they were tight. I was really digging their act. The audience was into it as well for a change. I've only seen the place that wild once before and that was at the GBH show. So for now, Soulfly's got #3 on my list of the wildest shows. Watching the crowd (from a safe distance tonight, mind you) was almost as much fun as watching the show. The basics: two guitars, one bass, one drummer with a massive kit, and more 2x4 cabinets than should be allowed. I'll admit that I had never heard a lick of Soulfly's music before the night started. I left as a fan though. So with all this good feelings and praise abounding, why did I start out saying too bad? Because the moron's only played for an hour. Given that there were only two opening acts and the show started at 8 ... to close down and walk off the stage after only an hour is unforgivable. Especially for any act over a $10 ticket. I couldn't believe it. I've seen much crappier acts stay on longer, even when the crowd wasn't begging them to play more. It was a big disappointment to be leaving at 11 after such a great show. I hope they were only having a bad night or the HOB shut them down due to the Memorial Day holiday. If all their shows are that short, just stay at home and listen to the CDs, it's not worth the money to see them live, get amped up on the show, and then have them bail on you. Like I said, too bad.
