Brian Setzer

The Coach House

This was one of those rare opportunities to see someone play a much smaller venue than they usually play. Well worth the hefty price of admission for the evening, Brian's show was all energy. Brian, his guitars, and a small backing band, played the night away with just good old rock and roll. Not any of the swing/big band stuff he's more famous for now, but more of the Stray Cats kind of rock. Hell, he even had one of the old Stray Cats up on stage for a couple of numbers during the encore. Just like the old days. Brian is an amazing performer though, and although I haven't seen him in a large venue where some of his energy may be lost, if you ever get the opportunity to see him live in a small place, definitely try and do it. It's a rare treat to see someone with that much talent playing in that intimate of an arena. Throughout the night Brian changed guitars, almost using one per number it seemed. Hell, he even played a few numbers on a steel pedal guitar ... if only he had a dobro, the show would have been complete. Oh well, maybe next time.
