House of Blues, Anaheim I'll admit upfront here that I went not knowing one of Motorhead's songs ... and not really knowing much more about them than they were an old metal band who'd been around forever with a bass player named Lemmy. That being said ... Lemmy kicks ass! He plays hard and looks just downright nasty. Three Marshall stacks for two guitarists plus Lemmy's' rig made for one very loud night at the HOB. Lots of old folks, some younger folks, almost everybody ready to rock. There's always a few butt munches to throw a wet rag on a show isn't there? Anyway, did I mention Lemmy kicks ass? Motorhead played a reasonably long set ... not as long as most of the headliners at he HOB, but not too short to disappoint. The highlight of the evening for me was when they played the old Pistol's song God Save the Queen. They did a pretty good job on it, although I have to admit I like the way I play it better (and there's the only piece of my pride you'll find on this site). Of course they played their regular stuff and kept the show going all night. The crowd didn't totally get out of control ... more due to it's age than the efforts of the band. But it was a good show, and well worth the price of admission. If you like metal they're worth it ... as long as you're not totally into new or speed metal. Their shows provide more than ample opportunity to bang your head if you're so inclined. A must by all means if you're a Motorhead fan. I actually met a couple of guys at the show who foamed over the band so much they'd driven down from Fresno just for this show. What dedication .... fortunately for them, Motorhead didn't let them down. You can find Motorhead's homepage here. |
