Manic Hispanic

House of Blues, Anaheim

I thought when these guys came on stage that they seemed awfully familiar. After a second take, I realized that the singer, bass player, and maybe one or two others were from the Cadillac Tramps. Immediately protecting my jaw (see my review on the CT's), I braced myself for another moshing extravaganza. Fortunately for me (hurt ankle that night) the moshing was only half-hearted. Sporting some seven or eight guys up on stage, including two singers, these guys put on a great show of old and new punk covers although slightly twisted with a large dose of barrio humor. Seeing a stage full of guys with ink and bandanas, etc., etc., everywhere singing God Save the Queen was an especially interesting treat. The crowd, who was there to see Bad Religion, didn't seem nearly as interested in these guys as the audience for the Cadillac Tramps was, but oh well. They played well, provided a few laughs, and ended up being one of the more pleasurable opening acts I've seen in a while. The CT's are a lot more original, but Manic Hispanic made it a lot more fun. See either of them ... they're worth it.
