House of Blues, Anaheim Opening for the Cramps, the Gore Gore Girls were a welcome surprise. Dressed oddly (only since damn near everyone else there that night was wearing black) they came on stage dressed in white latex mini's with white go-go boots. You gotta love it. Four girls, two guitars, a bass, and a drum kit about sums it up. They played a really energetic set of what I thought were great tunes and I was digging the band for more than just their looks. The crowd didn't really seem to agree with me, and didn't give them much of a reaction short of a few whistles when they opened the curtains. I still don't understand why people won't enjoy stuff that isn't 100% exactly right up their alley. They were worth a little more than that I thought. Anyway, playing two beautiful hollow body (Gretsch I think) guitars ... one white, one black with gold hardware there were six things that kept my attention during the whole 45 minute set ... four girls and two guitars of course. Anyway, they rock harder than you'd expect and short of Kittie they're now one of my favorite girl bands ... or fuck it, their one of my favorite bands now. The dish out good old hard rock / rockabilly / danceable / moshable music ... check 'em out, they're a great live act. You can find the Gore Gore Girls here. |
