I didn't go to this show to see
Flogging Molly actually. I really came to see the Supersuckers who were opening
for them that particular evening. I had even considered leaving after the
opening acts. But I stayed. It was good. Real good. I wasn't too sure about what
to expect from an Irish drinking song punk band combination thingy, but I'll
admit I got into it. I'm not so sure I'd be into their music outside of a show,
or a bar, or anywhere there are lots of people and lots of drinks, but it all
fit well with the House of Blues. So anyway, one singer, playing acoustic
guitar, singing Irish songs, with an Irish accent. Then there's an obligatory
fiddle / flute player. Then add some guitars, a bass and some drums to punk it
up. And there you have Flogging Molly. Lots of talent. Lots. They sold the place
out two nights running and with good reason. Loud and raucous at times,
melancholy at others, perfect drinking music. They're well worth a night out
should you get the chance and be prepared if there's a pit. They do mosh to this
stuff given the chance. Kind of neat that way actually. And boys ... lots of
women there too. There was a good age range in attendance, going from little
folk to big older folk. It made for a happy, upbeat, jumpy kind of night. That
and I had a little girl jumping up and down my back all night ... heh heh. You
gotta love it!
Latest Update
Saw them again at the HOB. Pretty much the same show, although this time I
stayed up front. The massive amounts of alcohol flowing that night astounded me,
and it takes one hell of a lot of that to astound me, lol. Jameson and Guiness
seemed to be the standard fare for the night, and it's fucking incredible how
much Jameson the singer can down in 90 minutes. Good lord. The other highlights
of the night (aside from the music, which has already been described as
wonderful, lol) were a couple of well-endowed lassies, one of which was showing
here assets off in a rather cute pirates outfit. Ahhh to be young again. The
mosh pit was also a lot less interesting than the first show, and there was
minimal crowd surfing. I guess they were saving it up for Halloween the next
night. Heh heh. Anyway, they're still on my list of must-see's. Check 'em out.
