Better Than Ezra House of Blues, Anaheim This was an odd show. Expecting a somewhat younger crowd, I was surprised to find a lot of folks my age or (gasp!) older. There were also only two bands, which is a first for a non-major act, and there weren't that many people there. The show only sold about half of the available seats and sad to say the folks who did bother to show up were way too tame and mellow. Birkenstocks and open toed shoes abounded .... hardly moshing attire, and there was nary a spiked hairdo to be found. Granted, I wouldn't be expecting a lot of alternativeness, moshing or surfing at a BTE show, but you'd think at least somebody would be doing a little dancing, or some singing along, or something. There wasn't a whole hell of a lot of any of that going on sad to say. Which of course says nothing about the band. I was surprised at how good they actually were, figuring they were sort of a flash-in-the-pan act. They put on a good 80 minute set and did their best to make everyone happy. I think they succeeded, although you wouldn't be able to tell from the reaction of the crowd. In any event, they played well, sang well, and put on a good, happy, upbeat performance. They really deserved more than they got that night, but I guess there's just some nights when OC doesn't rock. You can find BTE here. |
