Deadsy House of Blues, Anaheim I had originally come to this show to see The Damned (review at left). Deadsy was the first opening act of the night. I swear to god, half the people there were there to see these guys. They have a great following. Mostly kiddies, mind you, but great nonetheless. There weren't a lot of people there at the time the curtains raised up so I got a nice comfortable perch on the floor up front and checked these guys out. It was like the 80's all over again, only better. Nice dark and gloomy music with a lot of power kind of sums these guys up. Lots of synth sounds, both from the Dr.'s standard keyboards and the other guy playing his z-tar, which is basically a guitar-shaped two keyboard midi controller. Elijah Blue (Cher's son believe it or not) fronts the band and plays electric guitar. The bass player (Creature, I believe is his name) was a show in and of himself. So as you probably can tell, these guys are as much a visual treat as they are a musical one. I'm glad I got to the chance to see them live, and their CD is pretty damn good as well. I guess they don't tour that much and stay mostly up in L.A. area venues, but they would be well worth a trip to the Roxy for a night of dark fun. And for what it's worth, they totally upstaged the second act, and were just about as good of an act as The Damned themselves. I hope to see more of these guys in the future.
