Dakona

House of Blues, Anaheim

As the opener for Better Than Ezra, the Canadian band Dokane did a good job of keeping the audience entertained. Their music was ok, a little too sleepy and sensitive for my tastes, but the ladies in the audience dug it. Sporting a pretty boy singer up front (with the obligatory chick-magnet hair, body, burning incense and rock star moves and grimaces), a guitarist, bassist and drummer, the band put on a decent 45 minute set that got just about as much reaction out of the crowd as BTE did later in the evening. They had some good hard driving numbers which appealed to me a little more and while I can't say I'd be the first in line to buy one of their CD's I wouldn't have to be dragged to see them live again at some point. Not a ringing endorsement I'll agree, but the music just isn't edgy enough for me. Take your girlfriend (if she's not into Static-X that is) or significant other ... it'll be that kind of a show ...
