Bourgeois Blues

House of Blues, Anaheim
The Coach House

I've seen this group open for a couple of acts, namely Bo Diddley and Rod Piazza. In both instances they did a good job, although for whatever reason I liked their performance at The Coach House a little better. They look horrible up close, and I know that's not the point, but the two guitar players just seemed like a couple of bozos and the rest of the band just kind of looked like they just showed up after lounging around on a Sunday. The singer and keyboard player (who is evidently blind) were the two notable exceptions and seemed a lot more professional than the rest of the band. I'll give them a bum rap here for covering a Sue Foley song that I've loved for years and will now think of this band and how poorly it carried off. But seriously, they have an ok sound, and do a respectable job of the blues. I tend to prefer a tad more originality and some gutsy raunchiness and I don't think these guys know how to go there. The one bright note is the singer who does a good job and can almost pull off a respectable Janis Joplin. Not all that bad for a bar band. For what it's worth, I wouldn't go looking for them, but I wouldn't be ticked if they happend to show up at a bar or some other concert. They're just that good, heh.

Not being able to find a website for these guys, I don't know if they play locally on their own or what. Sorry. But why the heck would you want it anyway?
