Notes on
some bike trails in So. Cal. Fat bottomed girls, you make the rockin' world go 'round. Indeed. That's not what this page
is for though. Want a longer ride? Irwindale to Seal Beach along the 605 has a nice well-maintained bike trail. Not a lot of people on it, so it's peaceful and you can maintain speed without dodging pedestrians. It runs along the San Gabriel River, and you can get onto it from any of the parks along the river or at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale or just north of the Seal Beach pier. The upper reaches are hot during the summer so beware. The round trip is about 60 miles and the wind typically blows northbound on the trail after 10 a.m. or so. Keep that in mind ... a 30 mile trudge against the wind is a bitch. Another place I ride is along PCH and the various boardwalks between Seal Beach and just south of Balboa. There's a lot of people and cars, etc., on this route, but it's a lot more scenic. Lastly, my after work rides are usually spent around the Newport Back Bay. It's a ten mile round trip and includes a nice bike path/road with not a lot of dodging to do, and some street riding along some quiet residential streets. This place wins hands down for the scenery, including the number of gals running there in the evenings. You just got to have something else to look at besides your tire going around don't you? And don't forget to look out for the flying mullets! |
